Cyclist killed in Dundalk hit-and-run; police search for vehicle

Baltimore County Police are investigating a hit-and-run over the weekend that left a bicyclist dead, one of a growing number of fatal crashes in the area

The cyclist, a man, was struck around 2 a.m. Saturday in the area near Merritt Boulevard and North Point Road in Dundalk, officials said. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he died, officials said.

The driver fled the scene, police said, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police did not identify the victim nor did they respond to a question about the make and model of the vehicle that struck the cyclist.

The man’s death comes nearly a week after three people were injured when police say a driver cut off a bus carrying Maryland School for the Blind students, causing it to crash into a Parkville pharmacy. Weeks earlier, a Maryland Transit Administration bus crashed into several cars traveling along a busy Pikesville street before slamming into a FedEx outlet, injuring more than 30 people.

There have been 27 fatal crashes in Baltimore County so far this year, second in the state only to Prince George’s County, where there have been three dozen, according to state data.

Also this month, one person died in a crash in White Marsh and a 60-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking along a Randallstown intersection.

State data shows more than a dozen of the fatalities from crashes in Baltimore County have involved pedestrians. The other cyclist death involved a teenage boy in Towson who was fatally struck while riding his bike along West Joppa Road in May.

Overall, crash fatalities in Maryland are down to 221 so far this year compared to the 269 around this time in 2025. Last year marked a decade low for traffic deaths.
