A 60-year-old man died after he was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross an intersection in Randallstown on Tuesday morning, police said.

John Bates Sr. was struck by a 2025 Hyundai Elantra at the Liberty Road and Old Court Road intersection around 4:45 a.m., according to a news release from the Baltimore County Police Department. He was flown to a hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, and he later died there, according to the release.

The driver of the sedan left the scene but returned shortly after, police said.

Investigators with the police department’s crash team are looking into the incident.

The pedestrian crash comes on the heels of a crash in Pikesville last week that involved multiple vehicles, including a bus, and injured dozens of people. There have been at least seven fatal pedestrian crashes in Baltimore County this year.
