A 52-year-old man faces arson charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a Northeast Baltimore mosque fire Sunday evening, police said.
Shawn Fenner has been charged with second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, reckless endangerment and other charges related to a fire that broke out at a mosque in the 2600 block of Harford Road shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, Baltimore Police officials said in a news release.
Police said that officers, along with Baltimore fire crews, arrived on the scene and “observed a mosque that was fully engulfed in flames.”
Firefighters extinguished the fire just before 5:30 p.m. and no one was injured, officials said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Authorities said officers took Fenner into custody Sunday evening. The charges against him were not available in online court records Monday evening.
The 2600 block of Harford Road includes a mix of rowhomes; businesses, such as convenience stores and restaurants; and houses of worship, including a mosque.
Police do not share the specific location of such incidents.
