A 36-year-old motorcyclist died after being struck Monday night by a man who police say was driving while impaired.

Allen Durant, 66, was driving a 2002 Ford when it struck a motorcycle being ridden by Terrance Patterson in the 100 block of North Hilton Street just before 10:40 p.m. Monday, Baltimore Police said in a news release.

Durant fled the scene but was found shortly after, authorities said. Patterson was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Durant was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, according to police. Officials said Durant had been drinking. His charges were not available for viewing in online court records Tuesday afternoon.

Patterson’s death comes after a number of other motorcycle collisions in the Baltimore region. In Glen Burnie in late July, a 51-year-old died after his motorcycle collided with a transit bus. A similar scene unfolded earlier that month in Howard County when a motorcyclist crashed into a transit bus along Route 32.

Two weeks before that, Charles Braun, 70, lost control of his motorcycle and was hit by a pickup truck on Veterans Highway in Millersville. And days before that, two motorcyclists traveling on Norbeck Road in Rockville crashed into each other, leaving one dead.
