A 28-year-old man died Thursday morning after a box truck struck him in Southeast Baltimore, police said.
Baltimore Police and other emergency personnel responded to the incident at the intersection of East Fayette Street and North Collington Avenue just before 9 a.m. Thursday, a spokesperson for the department said. Officers found the man, who has not been identified yet, lying unresponsive in the street.
The man was transported to a hospital, where he died. This is at least the second fatal pedestrian crash in Baltimore this year.
Police found Phillip Jones, 48, in the 1200 block of West North Avenue suffering from multiple abrasions to his head and body in January. Police said Jones, who died at a nearby hospital, was intentionally struck by a car. Michael Akiel Manigo, 31, was arrested for Jones’ death.
Last year, about half a dozen pedestrians in Baltimore died in crashes. A man was struck by a Maryland Transit Administration bus, another was hit by a Charm City Circulator bus, and at least four people died in hit-and-runs in downtown Baltimore, Upton, Park Heights and McElderry Park.
