The insurance fraud trial of “Real Housewives of Potomac” star Wendy Osefo and husband Edward “Eddie” Osefo has been scheduled for Jan. 25-29, 2027.
The couple appeared with their lawyers in Carroll County Circuit Court on Wednesday afternoon for a status conference that set the 2027 dates for the joint trial. It lasted just minutes.
A Carroll County grand jury indicted the Osefos in October, charging the couple with seven counts of insurance fraud, eight counts of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and one count of making a false statement to a police officer.
The charges stem from a reported burglary of the Osefos’ home in Finksburg on April 7, 2024. The couple told a sheriff’s deputy that thieves stole $450,000 worth of designer handbags and jewelry while they were on vacation in Jamaica. The couple later submitted claims to three separate insurance companies.
Deputies later determined the items were returned to stores for refunds before the alleged burglary, a prosecutor wrote in court records.
The Osefos were arrested Oct. 9, 2025, and released after posting $50,000 bonds.
“It was scary,” Wendy Osefo said on an episode of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Potomac” about her night in jail. “You completely lose your autonomy.”
Prosecutors previously painted a picture of a couple in financial straits. In December, prosecutor Melissa Hockensmith told a Carroll County Circuit Court judge that the Osefos “have very little money.” Investigators, Hockensmith said, found 67 credit and debit cards inside four different luxury wallets, including a Chanel wallet that was previously reported stolen.
Jeremy Eldridge, Wendy Osefo’s attorney, pushed back on the prosecution’s findings at the time, saying there was “no evidence that the Osefos are in financial distress.”
Judge Richard R. Titus later ruled in the state’s favor, allowing subpoenas for eight years of the couple’s personal and business financial records to be issued.
A Bravo crew of roughly a dozen was on hand Wednesday to capture the couple’s arrival at and departure from the courthouse via a black Cadillac Escalade. Wendy Osefo, wearing a yellow pantsuit and Christian Louboutin heels, and Eddie Osefo, wearing a suit and Burberry tie, confirmed to Judge Maria Oesterreicher that they still reside in Carroll County.
After the meeting, Joseph Murtha, an attorney for Eddie Osefo, declined to comment on the case.
Wendy Osefo, a former Johns Hopkins assistant professor known as “Dr. Wendy” to Bravo viewers, joined the popular reality TV show’s cast in Season 5, which aired in 2020, and has been a regular cast member since. The 10th and latest season concluded in March.
Osefo said she was “absolutely terrified” of the fraud charges on a “Real Housewives of Potomac” reunion episode that aired earlier this year.
