NEW YORK — Testing in Baltimore on right-hander Kyle Bradish, whom the Orioles placed on the injured list Sunday, revealed the starter has a sports hernia. Although surgery is an option, manager Craig Albernaz said the Orioles and Bradish are evaluating every possibility.

In addition, the Orioles placed infielder Jackson Holliday on the 10-day injured list due to left wrist inflammation. His injury designation is retroactive to Tuesday, which means he could return before the regular season ends.

To replace Holliday, Baltimore selected the contract of infielder José Barrero. Barrero is a utility fielder who is hitting .202 with a .705 OPS at Triple-A Norfolk.

“He’s banged up,” Albernaz said of Holliday. “All of our guys are banged up. And Jackie, he’s been feeling it the past couple days, so medical is doing its due diligence.”

Holliday, whose earliest possible return is Sept. 25, is facing his second stint on the injured list. He missed the start of the season due to a broken hamate bone that required surgery. In 98 games, Holliday is hitting .229 with a .640 OPS.

The prognosis for Bradish is more severe than initially believed. He dealt with a lower abdominal strain, Albernaz said in Toronto, that had been bothering him for a “little bit now.”

Bradish threw 155 innings, his most since 2023, and he recorded a 4.12 ERA. His season teetered near the end, however, with a 5.83 ERA across his last nine starts.
