Ryan Helsley will exercise his $14 million player option to remain with the Orioles next season, according to a source.
The right-handed reliever missed most of 2026 due to elbow inflammation. He is expected to be ready for spring training and slot in as a back-end bullpen arm alongside right-hander Félix Bautista.
Helsley’s free agent market would likely have been capped due to stints on the injured list. He recorded eight saves with a 4.11 ERA in 15 1/3 innings, and he didn’t pitch again after June.
Players and teams have until Monday to make decisions on contract options for the 2027 season.
Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle has a $7.5 million club option, right-handed starter Zach Eflin has a $25 million mutual option, outfielder Luis Robert Jr. has a $20 million club option and left-handed reliever Dietrich Enns has a $3.5 million club option.
The business of the baseball offseason is expected to grind to a halt when the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players’ union expires on Dec. 1 just before midnight.
