Mexican, Colombian men’s soccer teams to meet in September friendly in Baltimore

The Mexican and Colombian men’s national soccer teams will meet in a September friendly in Baltimore, the teams announced Thursday.

The Sept. 26 game at M&T Bank Stadium will mark the first time Mexico has played in Baltimore. It is part of the team’s annual “MexTour.” Mexican legend and former Barcelona defender Rafael Márquez, recently promoted from assistant coach, will make his head coaching debut in the match. Both teams are expected to have their top players available.

Mexico, ranked 10th in FIFA’s latest world rankings, and Colombia, ranked 11th, are coming off runs to the round of 16 in this summer’s World Cup. Mexico lost to England 3-2, while Switzerland advanced on penalties after a scoreless draw with Colombia.

Mexico and Colombia last played in October, a 4-0 Colombia win in Arlington, Texas. The all-time series is even (10 wins each and nine draws).

M&T Bank Stadium is hosting games across three sports in September. Along with the Mexico-Colombia matchup, Baltimore will welcome the New Zealand and South Africa men’s rugby teams for a Sept. 12 game. The Ravens will hold their home opener two days later against the Cleveland Browns.
