A 37-year-old man has died after he was struck by an MTA bus on Interstate 295 in Anne Arundel County in the early hours of Friday, Maryland State Police said in a news release.
State police identified the man killed as Marc Occeas. The crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. near West Nursery Road and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Linthicum, Maryland Transit Administration spokesperson Paul Shepard said.
State troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack responded to the area near West Nursery Road around 2:30 a.m.
A preliminary investigation determined that a southbound bus with passengers was traveling in the merge lane when Occeas walked from the right shoulder into the highway and the bus struck him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. All passengers were transferred to another bus following the crash.
Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, as well as the Maryland Transit Authority, assisted on the scene as roads were closed for about three hours.
The state police’s crash team is investigating the accident.
It’s the second accident in a month involving an MTA bus. In September, 16 people were injured, including four teens who were hospitalized, after a stolen car struck an MTA bus in East Baltimore.
