The Prince George’s County Council is expected to appoint a new auditor Monday during one of its last scheduled meetings before the swearing-in of new members in December.
Marcel Emerson, a financial controller for a New York City-based acquisition holding company and former account manager for Prince George’s Community College, would take the helm at an eventful moment for the Office of Audits and Investigations.
County Executive Aisha Braveboy requested last week that the office investigate the council’s funding of Community on the Frontline and its Beverly Hills, California-based fiscal sponsor, the Edward Charles Foundation.
Community on the Frontline is run by Janna Parker, a close friend of Council Chair Krystal Oriadha and the godmother of her son.
The Office of Audits and Investigations, led by acting Auditor Larry Whitehurst, has issued subpoenas requesting that county agencies and the council’s grant office protect relevant records as part of the investigation.
Emerson could not be reached for comment Friday.

Braveboy also requested that the Edward Charles Foundation return millions the foundation has received from the council.
Her office announced Thursday that the foundation had returned $7.6 million, but that it is expecting the foundation to send back an additional $5.2 million.
When reached for comment by email Friday, Braveboy’s spokesperson, Brian Fischer, replied, “County Executive out.”
He did not respond to a request for clarification.
Correction: A previous version of this story stated that the council is expected to appoint a new auditor on Tuesday. It’s expected to do so Monday.
