A massive sinkhole swallowed part of an East Baltimore street early Saturday, leaving a car partially submerged and forcing officials to close an intersection.

The sinkhole opened around 12:21 a.m. at North Chester Street and Ashland Avenue, according to the Baltimore Police Department. No injuries were reported.

Videos posted to social media showed a car partially submerged in water inside the sinkhole as crews cordoned off the area. The sinkhole stretched across the width of the road in the Middle East neighborhood.

The Baltimore Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Works crews are on scene preparing to repair a broken 12-inch water main. Officials are asking motorists to avoid the area, expect traffic impacts and follow posted detours.
