The Maryland attorney general’s office is investigating a police chase in Brandywine that ended in a collision that left three women injured.

Officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull a vehicle over on Tuesday around 10:20 a.m., according to a news release from the AG’s office. The officers initiated the traffic stop after receiving information from law enforcement in Arlington County, Virginia, the news release said, though it did not specify what information officers received.

The driver fled the traffic stop and the officers pursued the vehicle, according to the Independent Investigations Division, a part of the AG’s office. Investigators said the pursuit ended when the vehicle collided with two other cars on Route 301 just south of McKendree Road, near the border of Prince George’s and Charles counties. Those two cars were not involved in the incident, but one woman was injured in one of the cars and taken to a hospital, according to the news release.

Both women in the fleeing vehicle were hospitalized, with one in “grave” condition, according to state investigators.

The identity of the officers will likely be released in two days, based on the state’s protocol for officer-involved incidents, but the AG’s office said it will not release the name of the adult woman who was in grave condition at this time.

Any body-worn camera footage and dash camera footage will likely be released within 20 days of the incident by the OAG’s investigators.
