Woman dies days after Brandywine crash that ended police pursuit; AG investigating

One person died and another two were injured after an Aug. 25 police chase in Brandywine, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Miya Tamerra Stringfield, 34, of Indian Head, was injured in the crash. Her passenger, Alexis Cummings, 33, of Temple Hills, was killed, according to the Maryland State Police. Another woman in an uninvolved vehicle was hospitalized.

The Maryland attorney general’s office said it is investigating and that the chase involves two officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Eddie Vanover, a 5-year veteran, and Justin Bottorf, a 13-year veteran.

The officers attempted to pull over a vehicle at about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the attorney general’s office.

The officers initiated the traffic stop after receiving information from law enforcement in Arlington County, Virginia, the release said, though it did not specify what information they received.

The driver fled the traffic stop and the officers pursued the vehicle, according to the office’s Independent Investigations Division.

Investigators said the pursuit ended when the vehicle collided with two other cars on Route 301 just south of McKendree Road, near the border of Prince George’s and Charles counties.
