The Maryland attorney general’s office has identified the Anne Arundel County man who was fatally shot by six Baltimore Police officers following a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.
Maurice Daniels, 42, of Millersville, was initially spotted driving a car connected to an armed carjacking by a police chopper around 1:25 a.m., authorities said.
Ground units identified the car and began a “high-speed chase” through the city for about 20 minutes, Police Chief Richard Worley said Sunday.
The pursuit ended when Daniels pulled over on the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue around 1:41 a.m. and officers approached the car.
Police said Daniels refused officers’ commands to exit the vehicle and locked himself inside. An officer was preparing to break the car window when another saw a gun and called it out.
Within seconds, officers fired shots at the car, killing Daniels.
The attorney general’s office said Sgt. Kevin Rivera and Officers Charles Blackman, David Weldon, Antonio Groomes, Darrius Hicklin and Al-Shakier Drake fired their weapons.
The weapon recovered from the car was a BB gun, according to Worley.
The attorney general’s office’s Independent Investigations Division has been reviewing the shooting.
