Marylanders can expect below-freezing weather just days after the region saw record heat for April, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service issued a freeze warning starting late Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday as temperatures drop as low as 30 degrees. Frost could kill flowers, crops and other vegetation, according to the weather service, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Much of central Maryland will see temperatures in the mid 30s to the high 40s, with a light breeze with gusts up to 25 mph throughout the day. The low expected for the Baltimore area is around 32, according to NWS.
Gusty winds and dry air also mean an elevated wildfire threat through Monday afternoon, according to the weather service. Temperatures will climb back up on Wednesday, with highs in the low to mid 70s through the rest of the week.
Springtime is expected to bring above-average temperatures across the U.S., according to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, and the seasonal precipitation outlook for Maryland is above normal.
