COLUMN | Craig Albernaz holds Samuel Basallo to a high standard and hasn’t always waited for private moments to do so. It’s not about Albernaz, but he certainly knows that turning Basallo into a consistent, high-level catcher would reflect well on him and his staff, and make the Orioles good for a decade.
COLUMN | Just because the Orioles have demonstrated time and time again that they won’t stay down long, that doesn’t change the reality that all of this takes a toll.
The Orioles were furious when a controversial baserunning call in Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays negated what would have been an inning-ending double play.
“The runner has the right to establish his basepath, and so Clement had established his basepath to avoid the fielder from potential interference,” umpire Nic Lentz told a pool reporter.
The Orioles chipped away at the lead the Blue Jays built in the early innings, but an uncharacteristically poor performance from Bradish set the groundwork of Baltimore’s 6-4 loss at Rogers Centre.
