The Orioles’ training room door continues to be a revolving one.

Right-hander Dean Kremer is the latest player to land on the injured list, with his right quadriceps strain resulting in a 15-day stint (retroactive to April 20). In Kremer’s place comes right-hander Brandon Young.

Young is a capable replacement, and he will start Friday’s series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards. Between the majors and Triple-A, Young has allowed only two runs in 21 2/3 innings. His lone big league appearance came as a spot starter, and he impressed against the Chicago White Sox with five scoreless frames.

Young has limited opposing batters to eight hits and five walks while striking out 21.

Still, losing Kremer for any period adds another wrinkle to the rotation. Baltimore is already without right-hander Zach Eflin for the rest of the season after he underwent Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. That dug into the Orioles’ depth immediately.

It’s unclear when and how this right quad strain became an issue for Kremer. The injury is backdated the maximum three days, which indicates it’s not an injury that just cropped up. Kremer pitched Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians and did well, allowing three runs in six innings with only two hits against him.

That was his second start of the season. Kremer began the year in Triple-A but arrived to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the last homestand. He produced five innings with four runs (two earned) against him in that season debut, and he gave up three home runs.

The Orioles’ injured list is crowded, but outfielder Tyler O’Neill should be nearing a return. He is eligible to be activated off the seven-day concussion list, and he passed most benchmarks, in terms of hitting, running and fielding, while the team was in Kansas City. It remains to be seen if O’Neill will require a rehab assignment, though.

With O’Neill and Kremer, there are 13 players on the major league injured list. The others are Jackson Holliday, Heston Kjerstad, Keegan Akin, Andrew Kittredge, Colin Selby, Dietrich Enns, Yaramil Hiraldo, Félix Bautista, Jordan Westburg, Ryan Mountcastle and Eflin.

The most recent updates among those players are for Holliday and Hiraldo. This week, Hiraldo went to receive a second opinion on his shoulder inflammation from Dr. Neal ElAttrache. And Holliday underwent an MRI on his right hand Wednesday after exiting his rehab game in Norfolk with hand discomfort — another hiccup in his recovery from a February surgery for a broken hamate bone.
