A fuel tanker carrying 8,000 gallons of gasoline caught fire on Interstate 795 Friday night in Reisterstown before it was extinguished overnight, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The incident occurred about 11:15 p.m. near the Westminster Pike, said Travis Francis, bureau chief with county fire, who said there was no rollover, collision or explosion.

A hazmat team helped extinguish the fire, Francis said. The Maryland Department of the Environment also responded.

No one was injured but roads were expected to be closed for “an extended time for cleanup,” officials said in a social media post.
