LONDON — Commanders coach Dan Quinn had one bit of solace after his 13th loss in 16 games: His franchise quarterback is coming back.

Well, hopefully.

Washington star Jayden Daniels could return next week against the New York Giants, Quinn said. Daniels has missed the last two weeks after dislocating his elbow for a second time.

“That’s the hope for us for sure, Jay coming back,” Quinn said Sunday. “He’ll have a full week of practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. ... That’s the goal for Jayden, to throw a full week. He was able to do some limited this week, and this week would be the plan for him to do all the reps.”

Daniels was hurt against the Dallas Cowboys when he fell and hyperextended his elbow. He was carted off the field and spent a week seeing specialists and evaluating surgical options.

He decided against having surgery after doctors told him it wasn’t “immediately” necessary. He did not rule out surgery once the season is over.

Daniels dislocated the elbow last season in Week 9. He missed a month and then aggravated the injury in his first game back before being shut down for the rest of the year.

Daniels will return this week with a brace on his elbow, something he didn’t play with to start this season. He said it doesn’t allow him to fully extend his arm — which in theory should prevent another dislocation.

But as Daniels nears his return, there are concerns Washington won’t have enough healthy players around him.

Top receiver Terry McLaurin is hurt, and two key offensive linemen are also down. Washington struggled to protect backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was hit early in the first quarter of Sunday’s 30-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in London and suffered an MCL injury. He sat out the rest of the game and could miss more time.

Quinn is hoping offensive lineman Sam Cosmi will be healthy by the time Daniels gets back.

“For us, having a run game is going to be a big deal. Hopefully Sam’s on his way back up too,” he said. “So, when you’re putting those two together, to me, that’s the sweet spot. We don’t want to make it where he’s a drop-back player and [must do] all your magic every time.”
