LONDON — So imagine you take an entire American football team across the Atlantic Ocean and put everybody up in a hotel secluded in the English countryside.
Nothing to do. Nothing to see. Just 100 players and coaches an ocean away from home.
How do you keep them entertained?
Well, Washington’s answer was bringing in the crew from “Batman.”
Jeffrey Wright visited the Commanders on Friday. Wright, who is from D.C., was in “The Batman,” a 2022 film with Robert Pattinson.
“It turns out they are filming ‘Batman’ right out here,” team owner Josh Harris said. “The [team] was ‘Batman’ crew. We were trying to get ‘The Batman’ for the game and all that. But you try to give them an experience that maybe helps you understand another city.”
Washington was staying in Watford, which is home to Warner Bros Studio. The campus has sets from “Harry Potter” and other major films.
Harris felt a Batman visit might lift the team’s spirits after a difficult travel week.
“Look, it’s hard on the schedule, but you make it work,” he said. “You don’t really have a choice [to come to London]. Like the NFL literally says to you, ‘You’re a good team; everyone wants to watch it.’ You’re excited to go to London, but it’s not your choice.”
Washington will play the Colts on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and then fly home. The Commanders have been in England since Tuesday.
