As Central Baltimore residents await the reopening of Eddie’s of Mount Vernon, community leaders have offered another solution: a farmers market.

The Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association and Midtown Baltimore are launching the Mount Vernon Farmers Market, a weekly pop-up grocery shopping experience that starts June 25. The market will run 4-7 p.m. every Thursday through October at 100 W. Eager St.

Organizers say locally grown fruits and vegetables, herbs, meats and more will be available. As of Wednesday evening, Communitas Farm, Dear Globe, Dmitri Olive Oil, Panzinos Rolls and Toads Wild Ride were confirmed to sell at the market’s opening.

The announcement of the Mount Vernon Farmers Market comes nearly a year after the closure of Mount Vernon Marketplace. Owners of the food hall at 520 Park Ave., which opened in October 2015, saw a rise in vacancies over the years. They cited reduced foot traffic following the pandemic as part of the reason for the closure.

It also comes months after the Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association and Jubilee Baltimore said reopening the staple Eddie’s grocery store would take longer than expected. The neighborhood grocer at 7 W. Eager St. closed in 2023 and has undergone renovations and rehabilitations from state, local and community partners.

Representatives of the Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association and Midtown Baltimore didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday evening.
