Perry Hall school shooting hero charged in Delaware prostitution case

A Maryland man who was once considered a hero for preventing a shooting at Perry Hall High School from turning deadly has been arrested in connection with a human trafficking case in Delaware, police said.

Jesse Wasmer, 45, of Kingsville, was charged with attempting to patronize a prostitute while visiting a Wilmington, Delaware, spa that New Castle County Police were investigating for human trafficking and illicit activity, officials said.

On July 15, New Castle County Police searched Crystal Spa, a massage and crystal therapy business, after months of suspected human trafficking and illicit activity, officials said.

Police said they found three women aged 47, 54 and 56 who were working 12-hour shifts seven days per week without proper compensation. Police also said they seized $15,975 and a bulk quantity of condoms and “other items consistent with the operation of an illicit massage business.”

A 78-year-old Pennsylvania man visiting the spa was also arrested and got a similar charge as Wasmer, police said. They both have since been released on their own recognizance.

Wasmer is known for attacking a gunman inside Perry Hall High School, where he worked as a guidance counselor in 2012, according to The Baltimore Sun. One student was shot in the incident, and many celebrated Wasmer as the hero who prevented more people from being injured or killed.

He’s now on administrative leave and barred from the four schools he worked with as a Pupil Personnel Worker, or student advocate, Baltimore County Public School officials shared.

Wasmer has worked with Baltimore County Public Schools since 2007 and has been a Pupil Personnel Worker since 2017, district officials said. He supported students and families at Bear Creek Elementary School, Grange Elementary School, Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts and Sandy Plains Elementary School, officials said.

A call to a number believed to belong to Wasmer went unanswered.

New Castle County Police arrested the spa operator, Nan Son Yim, 71, of Flushing, New York. She faces forced labor, sexual servitude, and second-degree prostitution promotion and conspiracy charges.

Yim remains jailed, police said. New Castle County Police are still searching for the owner of Crystal Spa, Meilan Quan, 54. Once found, police said that she will face similar charges as Yim.

The three women identified as human trafficking victims were referred to the New Castle County Division of Police Victim Services Unit for assistance, resources and support, police said.
