WSSC Water on Wednesday lifted a request that its nearly 2 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties limit their water use to essential needs.
At 5 p.m., the utility said in a statement that “the water distribution system is replenished to normal levels and power delivery to the plant remains stable and adequate.”
The request, put in place on Tuesday morning, followed a power outage that disrupted operations at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant, which supplies drinking water to about 75% of the utility’s customers.
On Wednesday afternoon, WSSC’s General Manager and CEO Kishia L. Powell said the water remains safe to drink, a point underscored by Gov. Wes Moore in remarks at an unrelated event Wednesday.
“I want people to hear me loud and clear,” he said. “There is not a boil-water advisory in effect at this time.”
WSSC had asked customers to:
- Avoid watering lawns and other outdoor water use
- Limit toilet flushing
- Minimize the use of washing machines and dishwashers
This story has been updated to reflect WSSC’s lifting of the request.
