A 32-year-old man was arrested for the assault and robbery of two longtime Fells Point residents that left neighbors in the entertainment district shocked and angered, police said.

A 60-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman, who neighbors have identified as a couple who live in the area, were assaulted and robbed on the 1700 block of Fleet Street on Tuesday morning, according to a news release from the Baltimore Police Department.

The victims were both knocked down and a wallet was stolen from one of them. The woman is still in critical condition following the assault, police said in an update on Thursday.

The Fells Point community is hosting a vigil for the couple on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at 1709 Fleet Street at the intersection of South Regester Street, according to a news release from the organizers. The organizers said that the couple has been living there for more than 35 years.

WJZ reported that the two had just had breakfast at Broadway Market when they were attacked.
