A 15-year-old boy has been charged for allegedly shooting an 18-year-old woman at an Annapolis home Monday, police said.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Royal Street just before 5:20 p.m. Monday and found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound, Annapolis Police said in a news release.

Emergency personnel treated the woman, and she was flown to a local trauma center, police said, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

“Thanks to the caller, officers and medics were able to respond to this incident quickly. As a result, the victim was able to get the urgent medical care she needed, and the officers were able to detain the shooter,” Acting Police Chief Amy Miguez said.

The boy, who was arrested on the scene, was taken to a juvenile detention center and now faces first-degree assault and gun-related charges.

Annapolis Police did not respond to questions about the relationship between the two teenagers.

The shooting occurred at the Bywater Mutual Homes townhouse community. Representatives for Bywater Mutual Homes did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
