Baltimore Police are responding to the area of the Erdman Shopping Center in East Baltimore after an officer opened fire there, the agency said on social media.

In a post on X at 12:45 p.m., Baltimore Police said more information about what it described as a “police involved shooting” would be made public as officials glean what happened.

Police said the shooting scene was in the 3900 block of Erdman Avenue, which is in the Belair-Edison neighborhood.

Dozens of officers and detectives are scattered across the parking lot outside of the Erdman Shopping Center and along Erdman Avenue.

The entire area was covered in crime tape, and there were over a dozen markers for shell casings on the street. Some shoppers coming in and out of the Save-A-Lot stopped to get a look at the commotion, a few expressing exasperation.

On the other side of the shopping center is a large residential neighborhood, which was also partially blocked off by crime tape.

Staff with the State’s Attorney Office were also present on the scene with police detectives who were reviewing body camera footage.

A white Toyota Camry was riddled with bullet holes on Erdman Avenue outside of the Herring Run Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library.
