Six people across Talbot, Baltimore and Garrett counties were rescued by helicopter over the holiday weekend by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police.

The first save was three 18-year-old women who were jet skiing on Skipton Creek in Wye Mills on Friday afternoon. Aviation Command Trooper 6 was called to respond because they were stuck in less than 12 inches of water over extremely soft mud, which made the area inaccessible to rescue boats.

The team brought the riders to a waiting area with emergency personnel via a rescue basket. All three were released with no injuries, according to a Facebook post by the Easton Volunteer Fire Department.

That same day, Trooper 1 rescued two inner tubers stuck in a heavily wooded area near the shoreline of Big Gunpowder Falls in Cockeysville. The aircrew deployed a rescue basket while hovering nearly 200 feet above the trees.

The pair was transported to a nearby elementary school to be evaluated, according to the news release from state police.

Trooper 5 recovered an injured person who fell in Muddy Creek Falls in Swallow Falls State Park in Western Maryland on Sunday. A rescue technician was lowered down and helped extract the patient using an air rescue vest — a device used to secure and reposition a patient’s body.

The patient in Sunday’s rescue was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, said state police.

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command currently operates with 10 helicopters from seven bases throughout the state.
