Authorities rescued a man by rope in Linthicum early Sunday morning after his car drove off the road and plummeted nearly 50 feet down an embankment.
First responders received a call for the incident just before 7:30 a.m. that led them to a ramp on Route 295 North where it meets Interstate 195, said Lt. Joshua Pfeiffer, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
The car seemingly “split the difference” of where guardrails were and drove over an embankment before falling some 50 feet down into a wooded area, he said.
Firefighters performed a low angle rescue, using ropes to help a man, who was the sole passenger, out of the trench. Photos posted on social media show glimpses of the emergency personnel using a cherry picker and what looks like neon yellow ropes to get to the man.
The man reportedly suffered only minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Pfeiffer.
A spokeswoman for the Maryland State Police said troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack helped with the response and that the car has since been removed.
