A 31-year-old woman and her dog died Wednesday night when a Hyundai Sonata struck them as they tried to cross Interstate 795 in Northwest Baltimore County, police said.
Maryland State Police said in a news release that troopers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian-involved crash.
Madison Cecille Davis of Westminster parked her car on the left shoulder of I-795 near Mt. Wilson Lane after it ran out of gas, police said, then got out of the vehicle with her dog on a leash and attempted to cross the travel lanes.
The Hyundai Sonata, driving southbound on I-795, struck them, police said. Davis and her dog were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Sonata was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Davis is at least the third victim of a fatal crash along a Baltimore County highway that state police have investigated in recent months.
Francesca Lloyd, 34, of Nottingham died after she and her husband ran into the back of a tractor trailer along I-95 as they attempted to pull over to address a flat tire, state police said.
