Police arrest MTA employee in hit-and-run in downtown Baltimore caught on camera

A Maryland Transit Administration bus driver was arrested Monday and charged with striking a woman in downtown Baltimore with his car earlier this month and leaving the scene, police said.

The Baltimore Banner obtained surveillance footage showing a sport utility vehicle striking Riah Luby as she entered the crosswalk at the intersection of North Charles and Fayette streets around 9 a.m. on Sept. 3.

Luby, 26, of Parkville, is seen rolling off the windshield of the silver vehicle and hitting the ground.

Video shows the man, who is wearing a yellow Maryland Transit Administration vest, pulling over into the bus lane on West Fayette Street, checking his car, looking back to where Luby was and driving away.

Lindsey Eldridge, a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department, said 63-year-old Curtis Collick was arrested Monday in the 4700 block of Mount Hope Drive. Police said he is charged with failing to stop a vehicle at the scene of an accident, failing to provide required information and failing to render reasonable assistance to an injured person.

Courtney Mims, a spokesperson for MTA, said Monday that Collick “is employed by the Maryland Transit Administration as a bus operator and has worked for the agency for 22 years.”

The incident unfolded as Luby was walking to her job as a paralegal. The crash left her with bruises, a contusion on her leg and road rash, she previously told The Banner.

Luby said in the interview that she wanted the driver to face legal repercussions and apologize to her. She could not immediately reached for comment Monday.
