A 64-year-old Anne Arundel County Public Schools secretary, who died after a hit-and-run on Reisterstown Road last month, has been identified as the search continues for the driver who struck her and fled.
Melissa Nocho was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries on Sept. 24 after Baltimore County Police responded to the crash near the accident-prone stretch of the road.
She died less than a week later.
Nocho was memorialized in social media posts during the past week as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Police confirmed that Nocho was hit by a black Hyundai Elantra. Investigators are still trying to determine who was driving.
Anyone with any information about the hit-and-run can contact detectives at 410-887-4636.
Reisterstown Road is dangerous
The collision where Nocho was killed, along the 1700 block of Reisterstown Road, is just a two-minute drive from where more than 30 people were injured in another crash in July.
That’s when a bus struck multiple vehicles and slammed into a downtown Pikesville FedEx office at intersection of Reisterstown and Old Court roads.
County residents have long complained that the corridor is one of the most dangerous places to walk, bike or drive. State data shows that over a dozen crashes have caused injuries on a half-mile stretch of Reisterstown Road this year alone.
Dan Brody, president of the Pikesville Improvement Corp., a group working to revitalize the downtown, previously told The Banner that everyone in the community knows Reisterstown Road is a dangerous stretch of four-lane traffic.
“It’s just,” he said, “when are we going to fix it?”
