Baltimore County Police are searching for a driver who struck and critically injured a woman on Thursday night in Pikesville and left the scene, authorities said.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on the 1700 block of Reisterstown Road, or Route 140, according to a post from the Baltimore County Police Department. It took place near an accident-prone stretch of the roadway. The suspect who left the scene was driving a black car that police said will have front-end and windshield damage.

The woman found at the scene was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Police Department’s news release. Police said they found her around 11:15 p.m.

The crash scene is about a two-minute drive from a stretch of Reisterstown Road that a Maryland Transit Administration bus careened down in July before striking a building, leaving more than 30 people injured, including the bus driver. The four-lane, busy road has long sparked concern among Pikesville residents, business owners and leaders, many said over the summer.

In 2026, state crash data shows there have been more than a dozen crashes that have caused injuries on a half-mile stretch of Reisterstown Road, from the exit of Interstate 695 to the intersection at Old Court Road.
