Officers on Thursday arrested a Gaithersburg man wanted in a Rockville homicide, Montgomery County Police said.

Montgomery County Police assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Shayan Solimani Damabi, 21, into custody after he left a Gaithersburg motel, police said in a Thursday night statement.

Solimani Damabi is accused of fatally shooting 33-year-old Nicholas Njuki about 2 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Quincy’s Potomac Bar & Grille at the Potomac Woods Plaza in the 1000 block of Seven Locks Road.

Police said Solimani Damabi and Njuki, also of Gaithersburg, had a confrontation inside the restaurant before the shooting.

After the confrontation and before the shooting, Njuki and a companion drove a short distance from the restaurant and encountered Solimani Damabi, who was in a separate vehicle.

Njuki got out of the vehicle he was riding in and approached Solimani Damabi’s car. That’s when Solimani Damabi shot Njuki, police said.

Solimani Damabi then allegedly fired at Njuki’s companion before driving away. After reviewing surveillance video, detectives secured an arrest warrant charging Solimani Damabi with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.

Solimani Damabi is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
