A judge on Friday sentenced a former corporal with the Hyattsville Police Department to 27 years in prison in connection with raping a child.

Prince George’s County Circuit Judge Todd Steuart also sentenced Jonathan Monge to five years of supervised probation upon his release after a jury convicted him in March of one count of sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of second-degree rape, according to a statement from the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.

“Monge is also required to register as a Tier III sex offender, which means he will be on the registry for life,” prosecutors said.

Monge, 38, is from Riverdale Park.

“While today’s outcome cannot undo the unimaginable harm this has caused our victim, it reinforces our commitment to safeguarding the most vulnerable in our community, especially our children,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara H. Jackson said in a statement. “Public safety officials hold a position of trust in our community and are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and respect for the law, both in and out of uniform.”

Hyattsville police said in a statement after Monge’s conviction that he is no longer with the department. Monge’s behavior was called “deeply troubling and inconsistent with the values and standards expected of anyone associated with this department,” police said.

Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff arrested Monge in November 2025.

Between Dec. 1, 2024, and Sept. 2, 2025, Monge sexually abused a minor while having temporary care and custody of the child, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Monge’s attorney was not immediately reached for comment on Wednesday afternoon.
