Montgomery County Police arrested a rideshare driver Wednesday in the alleged rape and kidnapping of a teen girl this week.

Abdoulaye Dia, 36, of Lanham, is charged with first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault and a third-degree sex offense, police said in a Thursday statement.

There may be other victims, police said. Dia was also charged in June in New York with sexual abuse and other crimes, according to court records.

Officers responded to a hospital Tuesday for a report of a rape and, according to court records, interviewed a 17-year-old girl who said she had been raped by an Empower rideshare driver.

McLean, Virginia-based Empower said in a statement Thursday that police reached out to the company about the alleged incident and that it is cooperating with them.

The incident occurred after the teen was picked up by the driver Monday shortly before midnight, according to court records. The victim told officers that Dia drove her to a parking lot in Silver Spring, where the rape occurred.

The teen said she felt uncomfortable because the driver began asking questions about “her relationship status.” After she was sexually assaulted and raped, and dropped off at her home, she told a family member, according to court records.

The teen identified Dia through the rideshare app, which showed his first name and displayed his picture.

Dia had been charged in June with crimes in New York, including first-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching and acting in a manner to injure a child younger than 17, according to court records.

He was arrested in Lanham and held in jail without bond following a Thursday hearing in Montgomery County District Court.
