A fight involving middle school students at a Towson bus stop Monday spiraled into chaos and further confrontation, including among parents, that led to nine arrests, Baltimore County Police officials said.
Students at Dumbarton Middle School fought at a bus stop near York and Lambourn roads around 3:40 p.m. Monday, police and school officials said. The conflict spilled into Tuesday.
During an investigation Tuesday, police said, a student involved in Mondayβs fight β along with a parent β got into another confrontation at the school. Officials said the parent encouraged students, ages 11-14, to fight before being escorted out of the building and starting a fight with another parent.
βI want to remind our parents/caregivers and students that fighting in schools will not be tolerated. It is dangerous and extremely disruptive to the school operations,β Mandy Shanks, the principal of Dumbarton Middle School, said in an email to families.
Shanks said the school called law enforcement after the incident involving the parents. Police said six of the students will face charges. They did not respond to questions about what, if any, consequences the parents will face.
Dumbarton Middle School serves students from fifth through eighth grades in the Rodgers Forge neighborhood of Towson. Its school motto is: βWork Hard. Be Kind. Show Pride.β
