An Anne Arundel County judge on Tuesday ordered a Curtis Bay man to serve 40 years in prison for killing his wife.

Cedric Dion Callaway, 51, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Aug. 13, the fourth day of his jury trial, in the 2025 death of his 44-year-old wife, Sarah Elizabeth Bundy, whose body was found covered with tires in an alley in Brooklyn Park.

Circuit Court Judge Christine Celeste sentenced Callaway to life in prison, with all but 40 years suspended.

“This was a brutal, calculated act of domestic violence,” State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said in a news release. “Today’s prison term ensures Cedric Callaway is held accountable for his heinous actions.”

Anne Arundel County Police responded to a residential neighborhood in Brooklyn Park shortly after 9 a.m. on May 23, 2025, and found Bundy’s body in an alley. Police pronounced Bundy, who had significant trauma to her head, face and neck, dead at the scene.

Callaway initially maintained his innocence, telling police that he and his wife were robbed the night before. Callaway said he had been “pistol-whipped” and that his wife went missing.

Investigators obtained surveillance from near the alleyway, including video from a laundromat that showed Bundy and Callaway walking together around 12:15 a.m. on May 23 and then Callaway returning alone around 1:30 a.m., according to the news release. He had a jacket, which he threw away in a garbage can outside the laundromat, and a cross-body bag, which police said belonged to Bundy.

Upon meeting him, investigators said they noticed Callaway seemed to have bloodstains on his hands and under his fingernails and that he did not seem to sustain injuries consistent with being struck with a pistol.

After he was transported to the Anne Arundel County Police Department for an interview, Callaway said that he was going to prison and that he’d kill himself if he were charged with murder, the news release said. Detectives hadn’t yet told him that Bundy was dead.
