Another round of severe thunderstorms is slated to hit Baltimore on Sunday with flood watches in effect and additional tornado warnings imminent.

The National Weather Service is advising people to remain vigilant during the coming storms as the downpours set in before 5 p.m. and scatter into the evening.

Winds can be as high as 60 mph, and meteorologists said an “isolated tornado” is possible. Andrew Snyder, a meteorologist at the NWS said the bigger threat will be flash flooding, especially in the evening. Temperatures are expected to hit the high 80s.

The widespread showers are likely to roll over into Monday, although with less intensity.

This hazardous weather outlook comes as Maryland has experienced frequent storms this summer, many causing serious damage across the state, including downed trees, fires caused by lightning strikes and power outages.

Snyder said that as storms hit Maryland the NWS will be monitoring the state for tornado activity, damaging winds and flooding. He is cautioning those traveling to stay alert and be careful, as the storms could create dangerous conditions on the roads.
