The Washington Commanders could be adding another Hall of Famer to their ranks this year.

Super Bowl-winning quarterback and current Commanders front office executive Doug Williams is one of five Contributor candidates for Hall of Fame consideration. He joins New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, offensive lineman and scout John Wooten, former Chicago Bears owner Virginia McCaskey and NFL co-founder Ralph Hay.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Contributor Subcommittee narrowed the list of possible contributors from 42 to five after multiple votes, according to a news release.

Members will meet later this month to pick one of the five candidates to send to the full Selection Committee as it votes on members of the 2027 class. Kraft won the Contributor nomination last year, but did not get in.

Williams played in Washington from 1986-89. He became the starter early in the 1987 season after an injury to Jay Schroeder, leading to a season-long competition. Williams went on to lead Washington — then known as the Redskins — to victory in Super Bowl XXII against the Denver Broncos, winning the Most Valuable Player award as he threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns. He became the first Black quarterback to win the Super Bowl.

Williams has since coached at Navy and several other college stops. He is currently a senior advisor to general manager Adam Peters in D.C.

Washington has 32 members enshrined in the hall of fame in Canton, Ohio.
