Anne Arundel County schools officials say they have identified the student who discharged pepper spray at a dance at Crofton High School over the weekend.

Officials wrote in a message to the school community Saturday night that they believed “the discharge of the substance was accidental” and that they were looking into the circumstances.

They said in a follow-up message Monday that while working with Anne Arundel County Police they had identified the responsible party as a Crofton High School student.

“In addition to any charges that may come from police, our school will take appropriate action in accordance with our Code of Student Conduct with regard to that student and any other student found to be involved in the dispersal of the pepper spray,” school officials wrote.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the school.
