Ice cream is on the menu anytime you’d like this weekend.

Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, and several local ice cream shops are celebrating the occasion with special deals and promotions.

Carmen’s Italian Ice in Rockville will be open for all 24 hours of the holiday, and customers can find different perks throughout the day. Bring your own travel mug to fill up with Italian ice for $10 between midnight and 8 a.m., order from their “Ice Cream for Breakfast” menu from 8 a.m. to noon, and get a $4 deal on custards anytime.

Dairy Queen, which has locations in Germantown, Rockville and Bethesda, is celebrating National Ice Cream Week by offering a free Dilly Bar now through Sunday to those who spend a dollar or more in the DQ App.

Free Mister Softee ice cream will be available at Rockville’s Twinbrook Quarter on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. for a family-friendly ice cream social featuring live music and a petting zoo.

Cold Stone Creamery (Germantown, Gaithersburg, Olney, Clarksburg, Laurel and College Park) is hosting a social media giveaway on Sunday that will give five customers free ice cream for a year along with some Cold Stone Creamery merchandise. Check out their social media for information on how to enter.

And if you’re still looking for an ice cream fix later in the week, Dolcezza in Bethesda Row is giving away free scoops of its limited-edition chocotorta gelato from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the company’s 22nd birthday.

Cookout songs and line dances will be on the setlist at the Concord Historic Site in Capitol Heights for an evening dedicated to celebrating Black joy and gatherings. Games and a double Dutch workshop will also be available, and guests can check out an outdoor exhibit on the history of African American family reunions. Put on by the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, the event is part of the monthly Gather on the Green free summer concert series.

A new play onstage in Bethesda

Shows begin Thursday, days and times vary

The Round House Theatre’s latest show is Happenstance Theater’s “Adrift: A Medieval Wayward Folly.” A unique blend of medieval music, physical comedy, puppetry and ancient art, the show draws parallels between its post-apocalyptic Dark Ages setting and the present.

Tickets are $40 for adults, $20 for those under 18.

Women in Sports Night at the Chesapeake Baysox

Friday from 6 to 10 p.m.

The Chesapeake Baysox minor league baseball team is celebrating women in sports before and during its next game. Prior to the first pitch at 7:05 p.m., fans can join the Women Networking Event and speak with women business owners at tables along the concourse. The team is also hosting a “Supergirl” cape sock giveaway for the first 1,000 fans ages 3 and up.

Tickets range from $13 to $22.

A ‘Toy Story’ meet-and-greet

Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m.

On the heels of the release of “Toy Story 5,” families can visit Commas Food Hall in Silver Spring for a character meet-and-greet and photo op with Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear. Woody will lead guests in a cowboy training and yodeling lesson.

An outdoor movie and a costume contest

Sunday at 5:45 p.m.

Fight your Sunday scaries with an outdoor screening of “Freakier Friday,” the 2025 sequel to 2003’s “Freaky Friday.” Families can join the parent-swap costume contest at 5:45 (kids dress up as their parents and vice versa) for the chance to win prizes before the film begins at 6.

Free sunset yoga

Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Montgomery County Parks Department is hosting a yoga lesson Monday on the shore of Lake Needwood in Rockville’s Rock Creek Regional Park. Beginners are welcome at the free class, which will include step-by-step instructions and accommodations for varying flexibility and fitness levels.
