Turnstile to play ‘Saturday Night Live’ in October

Live from New York, it’s Baltimore hardcore!

In a year filled with Grammy Awards and marquee festival performances, Turnstile will add another milestone to its résumé. For the first time, the Baltimore quintet will be the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” on Oct. 3.

The NBC sketch comedy show announced Turnstile’s appearance Wednesday on social media. The Oct. 3 host will be actress Dakota Johnson.

The live performance is the latest development in an eventful year for Turnstile, which in February won its first two Grammys: best rock album for 2025’s “Never Enough” and best metal performance for “Birds.”

The band — which includes frontman Brendan Yates, guitarist Meg Mills, guitarist Pat McCrory, bassist Franz Lyon and drummer Daniel Fang — also toured Europe and the United Kingdom, and found time to throw the first pitch at an Orioles game in July.

More recently, Turnstile released “Never Enough: Versions” on Aug. 28. The album features remixes and reimagined takes on its 2025 album by Elton John, Hayley Williams and Baltimore musicians such as Nourished by Time and Brandon Woody.

Turnstile, which formed in 2010 as a hardcore band and has steadily expanded its music palate across four LPs, has made nonmusic headlines this year, too.

Former guitarist Brady Ebert was charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault after he allegedly drove a car into William Yates, Brendan Yates’ father. Last week, a Montgomery County judge ordered Ebert to undergo a competency evaluation.

Turnstile opens the second leg of the “Never Enough” U.S. tour in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. The closest announced stop to Baltimore will be Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Previously, the band was scheduled to play Oklahoma City on Oct. 3, the same day as the “SNL” episode. The concert was rescheduled to Oct. 5.

Turnstile won’t be the only act with Maryland ties to recently take the famed “SNL” stage. Dijon, the R&B singer/songwriter from Ellicott City, was the musical guest on Dec. 6 when Melissa McCarthy hosted.

Season 52 of “SNL” begins Sept. 26 with New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson as host and the girl pop group KATSEYE as musical guest.
