Halloween tattoos with a side of sandwiches. Ghost stories over barbecue. Horror movie trivia at brunch. Baltimore’s restaurants, bars and bakeries are finding creative ways to celebrate the season, and I’ve found eight experiences worth adding to your calendar. The lineup also includes Día de los Muertos celebrations, with local chefs, bakeries and musicians honoring the Mexican tradition through special dinners, seasonal pastries, food and music.

’80s Horror Movie Trivia Brunch at The Point in Fells

  • 1738 Thames St.

If you know your Freddy from your Jason, The Point in Fells has a brunch with your name on it. On Saturday, the waterfront restaurant is hosting a trivia competition dedicated to the horror movies of the 1980s, with questions about classic villains, memorable scenes and the films that kept an entire generation up at night. There will be brunch specials, cocktails and prizes for the winning teams, with costumes encouraged. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with trivia scheduled for noon. Admission is free, but you’ll need to make a separate restaurant reservation to guarantee a table.

Animal Boy x Chapterhouse Tattoo

  • 4801 Harford Road, Unit 2

Some Halloween decisions are more permanent than others. Animal Boy is teaming up with Chapterhouse Tattoo on Oct. 31 for a flash tattoo event featuring spooky designs priced from $50 to $150. The sandwich shop is also offering 13% off its sandwiches, so you can leave with some new ink and a full stomach. My pick would be Satan’s Cheesesteak, made with your choice of marinated seitan or braised beef, peppers, onions and house cheese sauce. The festivities run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., giving you plenty of time to contemplate a tattoo while deciding what to eat.

AJ’s 6th Annual Pumpkin Fest at AJ’s on Hanover

  • 1500 S. Hanover St.

Pumpkin carving has its place, but I’m perfectly happy to trade the mess of scooping out seeds for a paintbrush and a mocktail. AJ’s on Hanover is bringing back its annual pumpkin-painting party on Thursday, with everything you need to decorate your own pumpkin, including paints, supplies and a little artistic freedom. The $30 ticket for the 7:30-10:30 p.m. festivities also includes a pumpkin beer or cocktail, and the restaurant will have $8 crushes throughout the evening. Create something worthy of your front porch, even if your artistic skills are questionable.

Scary Stories in the Dark at Blue Pit BBQ

  • 1601 Union Ave.

Ghost stories are even better with barbecue and a drink in hand. Blue Pit BBQ is welcoming the Firefly Crankie Collective on Oct. 29 for an evening of spooky storytelling using crankies, a traditional form of visual theater featuring illustrated scrolls that slowly move across a miniature stage, with live music between performances. The show takes place upstairs, where you can bring food and drinks from the restaurant to enjoy while you watch. The first hour features family-friendly stories before things get a little scarier in the second half. The event, from 7 to 9 p.m., is free to attend, with an optional donation of $5 to $10.

Sunday Service: Halloween Edition at Hotel Ulysses

  • 2 E. Read St.

Hotel Ulysses has never been shy about a little drama, making it an especially fitting setting for Halloween burlesque. On Oct. 25, the hotel’s Ash Bar is hosting a special edition of Sunday Service, with Elle Dorado leading an evening of performances by Eva Mystique, Medianoche and Qween Quan. The intimate bar, with its richly layered interiors and old-world glamour, provides a fitting backdrop for an evening of entertainment, specialty cocktails and dinner from the full à la carte menu. Doors open at 6 p.m., with performances from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available on Resy for $50 before taxes and include admission and a welcome glass of bubbly.

Día de los Muertos Celebrations

Día de los Muertos Salsa Jam at Arepi Venezuelan Eats

  • 1616 Thames St.

Día de los Muertos is a celebration of life and remembrance, and Arepi Venezuelan Eats is bringing people together through food, music and dancing. On Saturday, the restaurant is teaming up with Charm City Artists, Bmore Urbana and La Clave Project for a free celebration at El Jardín and the neighboring Sound Garden lot. Local artists and vendors will be on hand starting at 4 p.m., followed by a donation-based salsa lesson from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and live music from La Clave Project until 9 p.m. Arepi will be serving Venezuelan favorites throughout the evening, so you can grab an arepa or some tequeños before heading to the dance floor. No salsa experience or dance partner is required.

Pan de Muerto at Sacré Sucré

  • 933 Fell St.

Sacré Sucré is celebrating Día de los Muertos with its own interpretation of pan de muerto, the traditional Mexican sweet bread associated with honoring loved ones who have died. The Fells Point bakery uses slow-fermented sourdough brioche, shaped by hand with the distinctive bone-like decorations found on many versions of the bread, then tops it with totomoxtle and sugar. Pan de muerto is often shared with family or placed on ofrendas, the altars created to remember those who have died. Sacré Sucré is offering its version in limited quantities daily through Nov. 2, giving you a chance to experience this meaningful culinary tradition right here in Baltimore.

Cena Noche de Muertos at Alma Cocina Latina

  • 1701 N. Charles St.

Two Baltimore chefs are bringing their culinary traditions together for a special Día de los Muertos dinner on Nov. 1. Chef Miguel A. Hernandez of La Calle is joining chef Hector Romero of Alma Cocina Latina for a four-course experience celebrating Mexican and Venezuelan cuisine, with dishes inspired by the flavors, memories and family traditions that connect both cultures. The evening will feature a collaborative tasting menu, optional wine pairings and curated cocktails, with a vegetarian menu also available. It’s an opportunity to experience two distinct culinary perspectives at one table while honoring the holiday’s traditions of remembrance and celebrating loved ones. Reservations are available through Resy.
