Hyperseasonal eatery Foraged is closing its Charles North location so chef and owner Chris Amendola can focus on a 40-acre farm-and-restaurant property in Virginia, he announced late Monday.
“Sorry for the abrupt closure, but it’s time to move the operation to the farm and begin this next chapter,” Amendola said in an Instagram video. The last night of service was Sunday, he said.
Amendola opened Foraged in the former Orto restaurant at 1709 N. Charles St. in December 2021. The 68-seat space was the second Baltimore location for Foraged after he closed the previous location on Hampden’s Chestnut Avenue in March 2020.
As a proud mushroom forager, Amendola crafted a menu centered around locally grown and harvested ingredients. His work earned him a James Beard Award semifinalist nomination in 2023 for best mid-Atlantic chef, alongside Steve Chu of Ekiben.
Foraged earned acclaim for its rustic atmosphere and three-course prix-fixe menu, which could also be ordered a la carte, including dishes like savory mushroom stew, braised lamb neck and squid. The restaurant also served pickles and varied cooked “pig parts,” from the jowl to the chin and socket.
“It’s a very sad moment. I have a lot of history here in Baltimore,” Amendola said of the sudden closure.

He went on to thank Baltimore for supporting Foraged over the last eight years. He called his new eatery in Lovettsville, Virginia, a “lifelong dream come true.” The chef took over The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm’s day-to-day operations in early 2026. The farm-to-table spot offers a larger dining area than his previous restaurants with a menu built around produce grown by nearby farmers.
In the Instagram video, Amendola invited his former Foraged staff to pick up jobs at the farm, and said he is allowing customers with gift cards for his former Baltimore restaurant to use them at his new spot.
