County vs. city? Baltimore comedians Stavros Halkias and Ego Nwodim have thoughts.

Here’s the Baltimore-area comedy connection you need today: Stavros Halkias joined “Thanks Dad With Ego Nwodim,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum’s podcast.

Greektown native Halkias had plenty to discuss with host Nwodim, who grew up in Baltimore County. His stand-up special “Uncle Stav” premiered on Netflix this week; the Anthony Bourdain biopic “Tony,” in which he plays a cook, is getting rave reviews; and the third season of his comedy series “Tires” is out now.

Naturally, though, two funny people from the Baltimore region couldn’t help but talk about Maryland. At one point, the comics realized that they were deep in the Old Line State’s weeds.

“No one cares,” Halkias said of their debate over whether Baltimore County is considered Baltimore.

“Somebody cares. I trust somebody cares,” Nwodim said.

City vs. county

Can Baltimore County claim to be part of Baltimore City?

It’s a clear no from Halkias, who called Nwodim a poser for trying to do so, even after she pointed out that her old mailing address is technically Baltimore. Halkias offered his own litmus test.

“How many times has your bike been violently ripped from you and [you] chased after them in flip-flops as a fat 12-year-old?” he asked. “How many times did you sell weed off your mother’s Weight Watchers scale in high school to fit in?”

The duo at least settled on common ground — hatred for Washington, D.C. “That’s a common enemy. Absolutely,” Halkias said.

Ravens fans, for better or worse

Nwodim, who left “SNL” in 2025, and Halkias aren’t strangers.

They ran into each other during “one of the worst days of my life,” according to Halkias — when the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in January 2024 to advance to the Super Bowl.

Both brought their brothers as guests. “Baltimore is a family city,” Nwodim said.

Halkias, a die-hard Ravens fan, said it stung to see Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift celebrate on his team’s home field. Now that some time has passed, Nwodim wondered, would Stavvy congratulate the Chiefs?

“What, are you out of your mind? Congrats to them for beating us?” Halkias said, wearing an Orioles cap, before adding some expletives for good measure. “Ego, what are you doing? No!”

Baltimore showed up in a time of need

Asked whom he wanted to thank, Halkias chose his mother, who helped him recover from a broken arm this year, and Baltimore.

When a motorized scooter accident led Halkias to postpone his Lyric performances, which later became his Netflix special, Charm City showed up for its Greek son, he said. The Lyric didn’t charge him to move the dates from April to July, according to Halkias, and local vendors refunded him.

Baltimore “hooked it up in a way that is so incredible,” said Halkias, who added that he would have lost a lot of money otherwise.

After filming the special, Halkias and his team celebrated in true Baltimore fashion, “just crushing jumbo crabs” at Captain James Crab House in Fells Point.

“That’s true wealth in Baltimore terms,” Halkias said. “You get the jumbo, the extra jumbo.”

A return home?

While Halkias has lived in New York since 2015, he temporarily moved back to Baltimore earlier this year.

Looking to clean up his on-the-road lifestyle (think poor diet, drugs), Halkias told Nwodim about returning to Charm City, where he owns a house “near the water,” for some months to get his life together.

“That’s a surprising place to go detox,” Nwodim said with a smirk.

“I just went there, did nothing but walk around the harbor,” Halkias said.

He hasn’t ruled out another return home, so we might see him around soon. Halkias said a break is in order after this promotional run for “Uncle Stav.”

“I might even go back to Baltimore, detox again,” he said.
