Preakness has a different venue this year: Laurel Park. But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to get there.
Horse racing fans planning to drive in should expect delays on US 1, MD 198 by Laurel Fort Meade Road and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.
Limited parking will be available at the event, and there will be designated areas for ride-sharing drop-offs and pickups. Parking pricing and prepurchase options can be found on the Preakness website. Driving routes are also available on the site.
“Race attendees should remember to obey all rules of the road including paying attention, traveling the posted speed limit and driving sober,” a spokeswoman for the highway administration said. “Consider using public transit.”
Those who don’t want to drive to Laurel Park to watch the ponies can get there from MARC train stations in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., using the Penn Line. One-way fares can cost between $6 and $13.
A local shuttle will also be providing round-trip service from the Downtown Laurel Station, according to the Maryland Transit Administration.
