Drivers who use the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel should expect temporary lane closures this week, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
The agency will conduct maintenance on the Interstate 895 tunnel starting Monday, with work expected to last through Thursday. Drivers could experience up to 20-minute delays during two-way operations, when one lane will be open in each direction.
The northbound tunnel will close around 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and reopen at 3 a.m. the following day. Traffic will be directed to the southbound tunnel during this time.
The southbound tunnel will close around 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and reopen at 3 a.m. the next day, with traffic being directed to the northbound tunnel.
Closure schedules could change due to weather, traffic conditions and emergencies, according to the MDTA.
The 1.45-mile tunnel connects the Dundalk region to South Baltimore, serving as an arterial route for the city’s industrial sections. The tunnel has a 50 mph speed limit and height restrictions.
