Dozens of fire rescue divers and Baltimore Police officers responded after a man fell into the Inner Harbor off Pratt Street on Thursday.
Firefighters responded to reports of a person in the water around 3:11 p.m., said Khalilah Yancey, spokesperson for the Baltimore City Fire Department. Two firefighters saw the man and attempted to rescue him before divers arrived shortly after, she said.
The man was pulled from the harbor around 3:30 p.m. Emergency personnel worked on him before transporting him to the hospital. Witnesses around the edges of the harbor were emotional, tearing up as rescuers tried to save the man.
Workers from Phillips Seafood and the National Aquarium came out to help the man. One man, who worked nearby but didnβt give his name, said a person was sitting on the edge of the harbor when the man fell in.
Someone got into the water to try to rescue him, bystanders said.
A lifesaving tube was deployed and floating when divers began to jump into the water around 3:20 p.m.
