Yet another public pool in Baltimore was shut down temporarily because of vandalism.

The Walter P. Carter Pool in the city’s Wilson Park neighborhood was closed Friday because of overnight vandalism, according to an email from the Department of Recreation and Parks.

Manny Gonzalez, a spokesperson for recreation and parks, said glass was found at both pools at the facility.

“This requires the pools to be emptied, cleaned and vacuumed, and then refilled,” Gonzalez said in an email.

That process takes an entire day, he added, and the pool facility expected to reopen Saturday.

The closure of Walter P. Carter marked the latest in a string of after-hours incidents at pools.

Though the first day of summer has not officially arrived, Baltimore has already been experiencing a surge in the dangerous trend of pool hopping, where people trespass to jump into public pools when they’re closed.

Patterson Park’s pool was closed earlier this month after being vandalized twice in one week, according to recreation and parks. One incident left the pool and deck damaged. In another, vandals left graffiti.

The Lake Clifton Pool was also closed earlier this month because of an altercation between visitors.
