Dozens of people were briefly locked inside the Washington Metro’s Vienna station early Monday morning after the Washington Commanders’ late-night win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

A man whose X handle is @DMVAdventures posted a video on social media and said his Metro ride from the game to the station in Fairfax County usually takes an hour, but took twice as long. And when he got to the station, the exits were locked and dozens of riders were stuck inside.

In the video, the man tugs on a chain locking a doorway to the outside.

“Are you serious, dude?” the man says. “Now we’re locked in the Metro.”

The man continues, “I think it’s locked on the other side, too, dude. Look at all these people stuck on the Metro.”

A spokesperson for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said in a statement to The Banner Monday morning that riders were stuck at the station for about 10 minutes because a station manager locked the outside gate in an effort to prevent customers from entering during a final station check for the night.

“The last Orange Line train entered the station at 1:39 am. According to video footage, the last customers from that train were exiting the mezzanine area around 1:43 am, at which time the station manager followed those customers to allow them to exit via the outside gate,” the statement said.

“The total time the customers were unable to exit was less than 10 minutes.”

The Commanders won 27-10. The game ended at about 11:30 p.m.
